23 YEARS OF IMPACT
Founded in 2002 by Dr. Sanford Schwartz, CitySquash has a rich history made possible by our team members, alumni, staff, and loyal network of supporters. In the fall of 2025 we will move into our new home and begin an exciting new chapter of expansion and growth for our organization.

Founded in 2002 by Dr. Sanford Schwartz, CitySquash has a rich history made possible by our team members, alumni, staff, and loyal network of supporters. In the fall of 2025 we will move into our new home and begin an exciting new chapter of expansion and growth for our organization.
Under the leadership of Sanford Schwartz and Tim Wyant, CitySquash forges a partnership with Fordham University and MS 45, and 20 Bronx 6th graders are selected to the inaugural class.

Jose Alvarez, Edgardo Gonzalez, and Tanesha Jackson become the first students to win private school scholarships. Since then, other CitySquashers have followed in their footsteps.

CiySquash becomes the first SEA program to work with elementary school students. Today, CitySquash students can begin their journey starting as early as third grade.

CitySquash’s first class of students graduate from high school and head to Hobart and Wesleyan. As of 2025, 95% of CitySquashers have matriculated to college.

CitySquash successfully raises the funds to renovate Fordham University’s squash courts and the partnership is extended through 2035.

The first class of CitySquash students receives college diplomas. Nearly all of those students are first generation college students.

As a junior at Cornell University, Jesse Pacheco becomes the first SEA player to become a college All-American.

CitySquash’s curriculum now includes STEM, social-emotional learning, nutrition, and wilderness survival.

Thanks to a partnership with Poly Prep Country Day School, CitySquash expands to Brooklyn and begins serving students from P.S. 163 and PAVE Academy.

Spring Enrichment Tours enable over 50 students to explore new places year year. To date, CitySquashers have been to 16 countries and 35 states.

CitySquash finds and purchases the land that will eventually house their own standalone squash and community center.

CitySquash supports its 200 team members and their families through a global crisis. The organization provided food, technology, tutoring, and community for students and families during an unprecedented time.

With no access to Fordham University, CitySquash must travel throughout the tristate area to access squash courts for the students. Much of the programming was virtual, but thanks to the generosity of many local clubs, the team returned to in-person squash.

CitySquash allocates more resources to supporting students’ mental health, thanks to a partnership with Dwellness Therapy.

$14M is raised for the future Julian H. Robertson Jr. CitySquash Center and ground is broken. The team at Gluck+ gets to work on CitySquash’s future home.

On October 8, 2025 CitySquash celebrates the Grand Opening of the Julian H. Robertson Jr. CitySquash Center. With the new building and the continued partnership with Fordham University, CitySquash begins the process of expanding to double the number of students served.
